BETZ, HUMPHREYS, SHAMBARGER posted by Mark B. Arslan on Friday, June 5, 1998

I am researching the SHAMBARGER family. My 3rd-great-grandfather Frederick  SHAMBARGER (born ca. 1792) came to Allen County, Ohio around 1853 from Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, with his six children - daughters Barbara (b. 1818), Catherine (b. 1823, m. __?__ HUMPHREYS), and Mary (b. 1834, m. Henry BETZ), and sons George (b. 1825), Nicholas (b. 1828), and Jacob A. (b. 1837). In 1860, Frederick SHAMBARGER lived in Shawnee Township. In 1870, he was living with the BETZ family in Lima. Frederick died of "old age" on 11 Jul 1875 in German Township. A John H. SHAMBARGER (b. ca. 1809 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania) arrived in Allen County about the same time as Frederick, but I don't yet know the connection between them. John was elected marshal of Lima in 1854 and died not long afterwards. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone familiar with or related to this family.

CHAPPELL, HAYES, JOHNSON, SLATER posted by Linda Lipp on Monday, June 15, 1998

My great-great grandparents, Andrew S. JOHNSON and Elizabeth Ann CHAPPELL were married in Lima,  Allen County, Ohio March 17, 1849.  I am trying to prove who Elizabeth's parents were.  I think they were George and Cynthia CHAPPELL.  They were living close to Andrew and Elizabeth in Marion Township in 1860.  In the 1870 census, George appears with a wife Mary. George died May 21, 1875 at the age of 71y 11m 15d.  I don't know what happened to Cynthia.  I think Cynthia's parents were Alanson HAYES, Sr. (b. 1782, d. 1862) and Rhoda SLATER (b. 1779, d. 1863).  The problem is that all of these relationships are just guesses and I can't prove anything yet.  I would love to correspond with anyone researching any of these families.

PANGLE, Augusta (Gussie) C.- I am looking for information on "Gussie" PANGLE.  I believe she was the second child of Isaac and Mary Adda Corns PANGLE.  She was born around 1885 and died in 1967.  She had an older sister Nida and a younger brother James.  I can trace Isaac, Mary, Nida and James, but am at a loss on Gussie.  She is listed in the City Directories for Lima up until at least 1903, along with Jim and Nida.  Mary and Isaac had died and the children were living on their own.  Gussie worked as a clerk for a Mrs. C. C. Rodgers.  Gussie married a Mr. COONROD.  This is all I know, and would appreciate any information on either Gussie or her husband Unknown COONROD.
