BARNHART, BERNIUS, HOFFERBERT, REITZEL, WEAVER posted by Klaus-Peter Hölzer on Thursday, December 13, 2001

I am 59 years old, a teacher for chemistry and mathematics and my favourite hobby is genealogy. Since more than 25 years I am very engaged with the BERNIUS families because the maiden name of my 88 years old mother is BERNIUS. So I could clear up the relationship of ALL Bernius' in Germany and their descendants to our ancestor Peter BERNIUS who was burried in a village near Reinheim on November 7, 1649. Reinheim is a little town about 30 miles south of Frankfurt/Germany with about 8 thousand residents and more than 30 Bernius telephon connections. Because about 50 Bernius' emigrated to North-America all BERNIUS' in the United States (I found about 100 in the White Pages) must be somehow related, too. During the years of researching I found with the help of friends in Europe and the United States in 14 generations 419 BERNIUS families with more than 1400 Bernius descendants of Peter BERNIUS. Now I try to write a Bernius Family History and therefore I need the assistance of interested BERNIUS' in the States for help and assistance and I would like to add you and your family to my rersearches. Now I got in contact with Mr. Dan Tomkins from Lewingston, NY and he told my that his GGGGrandfather was George BERNIUS, born about 1825 in Germany. He died in Allen Co., OH in 1891 as he was 66. Buried in Alstaetter Cemetery, Allen Co., OH. George BERNIUS. Born in 1825 in Germany. George died in Allen Co., OH in 1891, he was 66. Buried in Alstaetter Cemetery, Allen Co., OH. George married Elizabeth REITZEL. Born in 1829 in Germany. Elizabeth died in Allen Co., OH in 1913, she was 84. They had the following children: #1 Katherine (1862-1953) #2 George. #3 Lucinda (1860-1945) #4 Malinda. Born on 17 May 1860. #5 Emma. #6 Mary. #7 Michael. Born in 1869. Michael died in 1951, he was 82. Michael married Blanche. Born in 1891. Blanche died in 1964, she was 73. #8 Elizabeth. Born on 10 Jun 1869. Elizabeth died on 10 Jul 1869. #1. Katherine Bernius. Born on 28 Nov 1862 in Dayton, OH. Katherine died in Allen Co., OH in Dec 1953, she was 91. On 31 Mar 1884 when Katherine was 21, she married Phillip Jacob HOFFERBERT, son of Peter Adam HOFFERBERT & Philopina Wallas WEAVER. Born on 21 Jul 1858 in Greensburg, PA. Phillip Jacob died in Allen County, OH in Jul 1949, he was 90. #3. Lucinda BERNIUS. Born on 17 May 1860 in Columbus Grove, Putnam, OH. Lucinda died in Coleman, MI in Jul 1945, she was 85. On 1 May 1879 when Lucinda was 18, she married Melvin BARNHART. Do you know anybody of the members of the Allen County Genealogical Society who is involved with these BERNIUS families and would like to share informations with me. Thank you very much for helping. My address: Klaus-Peter Hölzer Waldstrasse 62 64354 Reinheim Germany
