FENNER, LANGENBAHN, SIMMONS posted by Armand J. Drapeau on Saturday, May 14, 2005

SIMMONS, Clara; Fort Wayne; Allen County IN, USA; 1905-1963. My aunt Clara was born in Gratiot County MI to Newton and Euella FENNER. Her parents separated approximately 1909, she remained in Gratiot County with her mother. Her sister, Alta FENNER 1903-1992 was taken by their father to Augusta, Kalamazoo County MI where she was adopted in approximately 1911 by George and Ella Perry. In approximately 1913 in Fort Wayne IN, Newton FENNER was sued for divorce by Euella FENNER, who requested custody of the children. In 1915 Euella FENNER married George Howard LANGENBAHN. They remained in Fort Wayne, with daughter Clara FENNER through the 1930 census. Both George Langenbahn and Clara Fenner were employed by General Electric. Per an obituary for Mrs. George Howard Langenbahn from the Fort Wayne Sentinel 12-05-1951, Clara SIMMONS was her only surviving child. She was also survived by her husband George Howard LANGENBAHN; three brothers, Clinton Carter and Maywood Carter of Breckenridge MI, and Walter Carter of Lansing MI and two sisters, Mrs. Josie Kelly of Fort Wayne and Mrs. Eualia Ballentine of Lima, OH. Incidentally, the middle name of my mother Alta FENNER Perry, was Eualia.

IRVIN, MERRICK posted by Jeannie Hegeman on Thursday, May 19, 2005

I am researching my husband's family. His grandfather was Ralph IRVIN (altho I am not sure Ralph was his real name) he worked for Westinghouse at one time, and he lived and died in Lima, Ohio (do I have the right county???) during his later life, anyway. I have no idea what his wife's name was. (nor does my husband) He died in 1971 or possibly '72. He had a son John (Jack) Oliver IRVIN (my husband's father) who, I believe lived with him at the time of his death. John was married to Loretta MERRICK and they lived in Duluth, MN for many years. She passed away in the early 60s. This name is very hard to research. John (Jack) also passed away in Lima, OH. in the late eighty's or very early 90's. I should have better info, shouldn't I? I am just beginning. If anyone can help me out, I would appreciate it immensely. Thanks!

BARBER, COIT, DAVIS, MILLER, RUPERT, SHERER, STALTER posted by Stephen Glen on Friday, May 27, 2005

Seeking additional information on the family of Jonas MILLER and Mary STALTER, who appear in the 1850 census in Monroe Township with what are presumed to be their children: Eli, Sophia, Abraham, Tobias, Ephraim, John and Jacob. Another daughter, Isabelle, married James DAVIS and they were living in Richland Township in 1850. It would appear that Jonas & Mary migrated fairly early from Fairfield County, passing through Hocking County, where their daughter Isabelle was born around 1832. I have also seen an index of Hocking County marriages that contained an entry for Mary Jane MILLER and Joseph STALTER, "upon oath of Jonas MILLER" in 1841. Could this be another daughter? I'm especially interested to learn where/when Jonas & Mary died and were buried. Based on the census, I believe Jonas died between 1850-1860, Mary between 1860-1870. At least three of the children, John, Jacob and Isabelle moved on to Huntington County, Indiana. Eli and Tobias MILLER both remained in or near Allen County, Ohio, appearing in the 1870 and 1880 census with their own families in Spencer Township. Both are buried in the Spencerville Cemetery. A 'Melissa J.', 1844-1868 is buried with Tobias MILLER as his wife; this marriage does not appear in the Allen County Marriage Index. He married Charlotte RUPERT (apparently aka Vilotta RUPERT) in Allen County, Ohio in 1869. He is listed with Vilotta in the 1870 census, 'Charlott' in the 1880 census (both times in Spencer Township), and with Vilotta again in 1900 - this time in Jennings Township of Van Wert County, Ohio. Children of Tobias MILLER and Vilotta Ann RUPERT (all born in Spencer, Allen County, Ohio): Corey and Wilda, born 1872; Sarah Carolina, born 1873; Minnie Ella, born 1875; Lewis Henry, born 1877; Anna F., born 1879. There are also two children appearing in his household in the census whose births don't appear in the index: Clara, born about 1867 and Mary J., born 1870. There are also these children buried in front of his monument that don't appear in the birth index nor the census: William (born/died 1868), Wilson (born/died 1872), Cynthia (1881-1882). One might presume that Clara and William are the children of Tobias & the prior wife, Melissa, but I have not verified this. Buried to the right of Tobias' monument is a J. Otta BARBER (1894-1895) - apparently a grandchild, as the 1900 census shows Tobias and Vilotta living with an Emery F. BARBER, listed as 'G-son'. Thomas and Sarah COIT (s-in-law / daughter) and Daisie COIT (G-daughter). Vilotta is listed as the mother of nine children, six living. Eli MILLER married Sarah E.W. SHERER in 1861 in Allen County, Ohio. He appears in the same dwelling with the family of James & Margaret Sherer in the 1860 census in Spencer Township, but no Sarah - perhaps she was already deceased? The following children are listed with Eli: Huldah, Mary M., Lilly R. and Alice J. The birth index lists this child of Eli & Sarah: Allen Jane, born 1869 in Spencer - I believe this may actually be Alice; no listing for the others. In the 1880 census Eli is listed with a new wife - Mary.
